Seth Stewart (they/them) earned a M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the California State University, Long Beach. Their training at the Long Beach Trauma Recovery Center included working closely with individuals, youth, and families who have experienced acute and complex traumatic events. Seth also devised and ran the first creative process groups at the trauma center. Seth’s counseling approach incorporates psychodynamic, existential, and experiential techniques in order to explore new bridges between past memories, present struggles, and future possibilities. They have a particular interest in working with writers, artists, designers, and higher education professionals, as well as queer, trans, and gender nonconforming folks.
In addition to being trauma-informed, Seth emphasizes understanding an individual in social context. Their prior education in philosophy, politics, and the arts has dyed the fabric of their identity as a therapist.
Seth’s training includes psychodynamic therapeutic techniques, emotionally focused therapy (EFT) for couples, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for children, and narrative exposure therapy (NET) and prolonged exposure therapy (PET) for adults. Their prior work and published scholarship relates to emotions and language, identity development, and labor as a distinctly human and world-making activity. Seth is also an instructor for graduate level counseling students at Cal State, Long Beach.
Seth Stewart is a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist (LMFT#150701), registered through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
